Jeg er ejer og stifter af Vang & Bar og jeg stiftede først kendskab til Gadens Børn, da de skrev mig en mail, og spurgte om jeg ville sponsore en cocktailbar til Gadens Børns gallamiddag i september 2018, –  Efter et hurtigt kig på Gadens Børns hjemmeside var jeg ikke et sekund i tvivl. En anden grund til, at jeg ikke tøvede med at hjælpe, stammer fra en oplevelse jeg havde, da jeg arbejdede på Halifax burger i 2012. Vi var løbet tør for fritureolie, og jeg skulle i netto med en af kokkene som kommer fra Nigeria. Da vi står i køen til til kassebåndet, peger min nigerianske kollega hen på kattemaden og spørger “is that cat on can?”, og jeg svarer: “Njaaa ikke rigtigt, det er mad til katte”. Min kollega blev dybt forarget ,og siger derefter til mig, “You have got starving people on the street, even in Denmark and you buy food for a cat??!”. Det måtte jeg jo indrømme, at vi gjorde. Netop derfor, var jeg ikke i tvivl om at jeg ville hjælpe Gadens Børn, da de kontaktede mig. Det at Pia og de øvrige engagerede i Gadens Børn er i stand til, faktisk rent fysisk at tage et barn væk fra gaden og give dem vand, mad, medicin og et håb om at få en fremtid, er helt vildt. Det er svært at finde ord for hvor sejt det er 🙂

I am the owner and founder of Vang & Bar and I first became aware of Gadens Børn when they wrote me an e-mail asking if I wanted to sponsor a cocktail bar for Gadens Børns Charity galla in September 2018. After a quick look at their website I was not in doubt – I wanted to help. Another reason why I did not hesitate to help was due to an experience I had had while working at Halifax Burger in 2012. We had run out of deep fry oil and I had to go to Netto with one of the chefs, who is from Nigeria. While we are waiting in line to pay my Nigerian colleague points to a can with cat food and asks “is that cat on a can?”, whereto I answer: “Nah, not really, it is food for cats”. My collogue is deeply outraged and says to me: “You have got starving people on the streets, even in Denmark and you buy food for a cat??!”, and I had to admit that we did. That is a big part of the reason why I wanted to help Gadens Børn when they reached out to me. What Pia and the other volunteers in Gadens Børn are cable of doing with the few means they have – offering children water, food, medicine and a hope for a future, is amazing. It is hard to find the words to describe hos incredible it is.
