Patrick on His Role as an Ambassador
"I believe that all children have the right to a safe, educational, and playful upbringing, and it is our responsibility as adults to help those who cannot help themselves by creating the frameworks and conditions they need.
I carry some scars from my childhood, which is why I am fully committed to making a difference and being the inspiration that I would have wanted to look up to. When I heard about Gadens Børn in India, I immediately thought that I had to support them with the resources I have. It is unjust that children, from their very first breath, are in life-threatening situations, are abused, and are subjected to inhumane pain.
I have been so privileged to visit Gadens Børn in Kolkata and see the difference they make. With my life experience, I was heartened to see how Gadens Børn's staff possess the most beautiful human values. They enter the lives of families and children with love and care. And that makes a difference!
The young ones I have looked into the eyes of are both strong-willed and warm-hearted. But to break the cycle, we need to help these children so they can go to school, learn about human values, and ultimately strengthen their self-esteem—so they can create a future filled with opportunities through work and income. We must be an inspiration for the children so that they can become an inspiration for the next generation."
