Serge Silveira on His Motivation to Become an Ambassador for Gadens Børn

For me, becoming an ambassador for Gadens Børn is not just a good and relevant idea; it is a great honor.

Here's the English translation of Serge Silveira's thoughts on his motivation to become an ambassador for Gadens Børn:

Serge Silveira on His Motivation to Become an Ambassador for Gadens Børn

"For me, becoming an ambassador for Gadens Børn is not just a good and relevant idea; it is a great honor.

It has long been a natural hope and a strong desire for me. In fact, the idea has been growing inside me since I contributed to and organized the very first Gadens Børn event at Bistro Boheme ten years ago.

Becoming an ambassador for Gadens Børn represents the materialization of my dream to give something back to life and to others who haven’t had the same luck as I have in winning life’s lottery. It expresses gratitude and a stubborn urge to contribute something that hopefully can make the world a better place for all of us.

I have experienced coming out of difficult life situations and, against all odds, ended up having a safe and meaningful life filled with love, dreams, and, above all, the ability to help others. For us, living what we consider a "normal life" is a fundamental condition that we simply take for granted—but the reality is entirely different for far too many people around the world.

It feels like my destiny to contribute, as much as I can, to help Gadens Børn carry out its ambitious charitable work for street children in India. I was born in Africa and lived in Senegal and Cape Verde for my first nine years from 1959 to 1968, so I know what conditions these children live under. And I can assure you: You don’t forget that! Poverty in that form is the same, whether it is in Asia, Africa, or South America.

I contribute to Gadens Børn because it is about children—children who need help, safety, and protection in their daily lives. I will always carry that little boy inside me who occasionally reminds me of where I come from and how fortunate I am today. It is good for me to remember how things could have been if I hadn’t, for better or worse, won the lottery of life 54 years ago.

Gadens Børn’s work and the karma that blossoms from the organization address their message to us who can help. It tells us that with simple actions, we can make a difference for these children. Not just for their sake, but also for each and every one of us.

I am grateful and humbled to have the opportunity to represent and contribute to the enormous work and significant difference that Gadens Børn, under the leadership of the fantastic Pia Lindell Qwist, is making for these children."

My motto:

I have to dearly believe that I’m one of those who can change the world!

If not with a tsunami, at least with a drop in the ocean.

Love

Serge Silveira
